Assistant Professor Microbe – Host/Environment Interactions

The Environmental Toxicology Department seeks a tenure track Assistant Professor with a strong record of research accomplishments in the area of microbe–host or microbe-environment interactions. Possible research emphases include, but are not limited to: molecular and cellular host responses to pathogens, including immune responses; microbial interactions with their chemical environment; the effects of toxicants on host - pathogen or microbe – host/environment interactions; and other areas of molecular microbiology and toxicology. We are particularly interested in candidates pursuing molecular, mechanisticbased research. Truly exceptional candidates pursuing innovative research in other areas of environmental health, microbiology, and toxicology may also be considered. In addition to running a strong research program, the candidate will teach both graduate and undergraduate classes in the areas of microbiology and environmental toxicology. The successful candidate will be a member of the Department of Environmental Toxicology, as part of a developing programmatic emphasis on environment-biomolecular systems. Our faculty have a rich tradition for developing close research collaborations with environmental and biomedical sciences faculty across several departments. Research laboratory space will be available in a recently completed, state-of-the-art, 80,000 square foot building.

RANK: Assistant Professor

SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. or equivalent in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or Toxicology, or a related field; a demonstrated record of research excellence; and a commitment to, and talent for, teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels. At least one year of postdoctoral experience and potential to obtain external funding is desirable.

Rank: Lecturer

Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications. The salary is approximately $6,500 per course (prorated for percent of time).

Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must have a doctoral degree or equivalent in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, and/or Toxicology or a related field completed or expected by effective date, and must present strong evidence of teaching competence or potential for teaching.

Effective Dates: As openings occur starting Spring quarter 2001, contingent upon availability of funding.
